Hey, im an admirer of your great work. Thank you for sharing your efforts.
Does this app still function? Will there be an update?
Regards
It’s a little outdated so you might have to apply the solution in faq page point 7 to run it, but the songs in library are the same anyway =)
I don’t mind not having the latest version, but Spotify portable does not load properly.
After execution, THOP splash screen appears followed by error:
“The application has encountered an error: Access is denied. (0x80070005)”
“The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000022)”
The main Spotify window appears but is blank, just black with the 3 dots top left, and File, Edit, View sub-menus.
Im running Win10x64 with all latest updates.
Is this a case of a new win update breaking the portable functionality?
Regards
maybe, did you try the youtube trick i mentioned?
Hi, Yes, i tried the procedure suggested of mapping the folder as a network share and or drive. It still throws up the same errors. Tried it in a VM Win10x64pro, still the same. Followed the procedure to the letter. The only reason I want a portable version of spotify is because the regular install heavily reads/writes to the drive, so id rather not have the install on my main SSD but on an internal/external mechanical HDD. Some have suggested in the spotify forum to copy the AppData/Spotify folder to the desired location and run, but this creates a new… Read more »
Isn’t it possible to choose installation folder with official setup?
Hi,
Unfortunately no. The installer does not offer to select a different install directory.
Furthermore, simply copying the %AppData%\Spotify folder to a new location doesn’t solve the problem of constant caching & creating new files on main OS install drive.
Spotify will run from the new location but it is essentially a “Snapshot” of the directory at the time it was copied over. As you listen to music Spotify recreates the directory on main OS drive (again) and the folder continues to grow in size.
Kind of annoying they don’t offer this functionality of choosing the install path.
